Hara Alonso is a pianist and composer based in Stockholm. Emerging from a classical contemporary background, in her current practice coexist electronic and instrumental music along with interactive works.
Her music blends dance, electronica, and experimental aesthetics generating rich, complex and imaginative sonic universes. She usually applies self-made software tools, modular synthesizers and own material samples. She is an advocate of free and open source software where she found the possibility to design sound limitless.
Physicality is a central element in her creation, therefore she has invented some unique body interfaces for electronic music. These interfaces have been performed in circus, dance and installation contexts.
Her work has been presented in multiple festivals and venues as Sound of Stockholm (Sweden), Biennale de Musique en Scène (Lyon-France), S.T.R.E.A.M. Festival (Hamburg-Germany), Experimental Sound Gallery (San Petesburg-Russia) or Keroxen Festival (Tenerife-Spain).
In 2018 her album debut, Pianoïse, was released by the independent Spanish label Keroxen. Her second album Islas Sonoras was released by CAAM- Sonoro in 2019.
Alonso is the initiator of the experimental composition project The City Composing carried out in Tallinn, Stockholm, Lyon, Hamburg and Brussels.
She teaches Applied Ausic Programming and Live Electronics Ensemble at the Kungliga Musikhögskolan in Stockholm. She collaborates as sound designer/composer in artistic research at the Department of Dance and Circus, DOCH, in the Stockholm University of the Arts.
During 2014 and 2016 Hara Alonso was part of the master in Contemporary Performance and Composition (CoPeCo). An itinerant program across 4 European cities: Tallinn, Stockholm, Lyon and Hamburg.
She holds a BA degree in Classic Piano Performance in the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Salamanca (Spain). During 2013 she got granted to accomplish an Erasmus program in Sibelius Academy (Helsinki-Finland).
