CROSSING (2023) CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS

Four women creators from four countries decided to find the common intersections of their work.

Eleonora Dall’Asta /PAN/, Ilona Jäntti /FIN/, Aki Yoshida /JAP/ and Eliška Brtnická /CZ/ haveb been engaged in artistic research in the field of contemporary circus for a long time. Fors everal years now, they have been meeting at festivals and within the framework of various creative projects.

All four create mainly solo pieces and although they live and create at opposite ends of thew orld, their works are strikingly similar in concept and poetics. Their common denominator isa erial acrobatics, which usually require hanging tools. The artist views this key elementp rimarily creatively and at the same time constructively so that it itself generates new possibilities of movement and expands the vocabulary of movement for the creation of a new

artistic language. The acrobatic tool becomes an art object that itself can offer a metaphor. In interaction with movement, it can be limiting, but thereby offering new movement solutions.

In this project, they share creative processes and research materials, that rest from other projects, can be reused. Crossing took the waste metal material from Thin Skin show (creation: Eliška Brtnická 2022) to be recycled and transformed for this new piece. Crossing is using 90% of reused materials.

This project would like to present to the viewer, in addition to the resulting performance, alsop arts of the artistic process. Thus, artistic research is also a topic that can convey details tot he viewer, thanks to which he will look at the work itself by different eyes.
